Reid D. Paddack, 65, Montgomery County surveyor and lifelong resident of Montgomery County, died at Culver Hospital at 6:50 a.m. Saturday. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance Friday about noon when he suffered a heart attack while working in his office at the courthouse. Mr. Paddack, who resided at Darlington, was appointed county surveyor in 1963 by the county commissioners to serve the unexpired term of John Walters, who resigned from the surveyor's post at that time. The surveyor's term would have expired Dec. 31, 1964, and he was a candidate for election to the surveyor's post on the Republican ticket at the time of his death. Mr. Paddack was a former trustee of Sugar Creek Township and a former member of the Darlington Consolidated School Board where he served as treasurer and bookkeeper of the board. He was also a former member of the Montgomery County School Reorganization Committee. Prior to his retirement from active farming, he was active in many farming activities and operated the family farm four miles north of Darlington until moving to a home in Darlington in December of 1962. He was a former director of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau as well as the Farm Bureau Co-operative. He was a member of the board of directors of the Tipmont REMC for 10 years and was a former secretary-treasurer of the board. He was also a member of the first corn-hog program committee in the county a number of years ago. Born April 29, 1899, in Montgomery County near Darlington, Mr. Paddack was the son of John Arthur and Olive Dykes Paddack. He was graduated from the former Bowers High School north of Darlington. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Student Army Training Corps at Wabash College. In 1924, Mr. Paddack was married to Harriett Ellis, a former Tippecanoe County school teacher, in Lafayette. Mr. Paddack was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Darlington Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Potato Creek Methodist Church. Mr. Paddack was preceded in death by his parents, a young son, Phillip, and an infant son. Survivors include the widow; a son, Gordon R. Paddack, Rt. 1, Darlington; a daughter, Mrs. Ross Martin, Rt. 1, New Richmond, and three grandchildren, Brian Lee Paddack and Rhonda and Anita Martin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Bright Funeral Home at Darlington. Rev. A. L. Vermillion, minister of the Potato Creek Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Darlington. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Sunday.
